As the NFL season winds down and the offseason starts to come around, teams start the rebuilding process. For some teams, this is evident through the NFL Draft, seeing if the players they draft be their future, as well as bring them the Lombardi Trophy. For other teams, they look to free agency to land big name players for their team. Some of the players in the upcoming free agency include players like defensive end Demarcus Lawrence of the Dallas Cowboys, running back Le’Veon Bell of the Pittsburgh Steelers, defensive end/linebacker Jadeveon Clowney of the Houston Texas and others. These teams also look to make key trades to better their teams, whether they be the smallest of trades or blockbuster trades. This is what the Pittsburgh Steelers have to deal with this offseason, as they look for a team that will trade for wide receiver Antonio Brown. One of the teams that the Steelers can look to trade Brown to would be the Green Bay Packers and here are the reasons why.
The Green Bay Packers are one of the most iconic franchises in the NFL. Like the NBA with the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers, the Green Bay Packers would be the Boston Celtics, as the Dallas Cowboys would be the Los Angeles Lakers. What this means- this franchise has history. History to shape those who were stars into superstars. Players like Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Ray Nitschke and other famous Packers who played most/all of their career for the Packers, having success in their careers, as well as getting into the NFL Hall of Fame. With Antonio Brown being one of the best wide receivers in the NFL currently, there is no question why he would not want to play with a franchise that helps him get into the NFL Hall of Fame. If Brown brings the production that he provided in Pittsburgh to Green Bay, there is no doubt that Brown will be in the Hall of Fame by the end of his career with the help of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Another thing that the Steelers must consider if they want to trade Brown is the fact that the Packers recently hired a new coach-Matt LaFleur. LaFleur is entering his 11th season of coaching, having plenty of experience as a quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football and the Washington Redskins, while working alongside with coaches like Mike Shanahan, Gary Kubiak, Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay. He also was the being the offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans last season, as he led quarterback Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans to a single franchise single season record for completion percentage of 68.9% With this success, he could have Rodgers have a similar season with Brown being his main target. Brown could also be used as a coach that LaFleur can look to for the wide receivers of the team. Working with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, he could work with Brown to create an unstoppable offense that was even better than when Antonio Brown was on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The final thing that the Steelers must consider is that if Brown gets traded, he is going to be joining a young and athletic group of receivers that show plenty of talent and potential. He would be paired up with receivers such as Davante Adams, who was second in the NFL in receiving touchdowns this season with 13, only trailing the great Antonio Brown himself, who had 15, along with Randall Cobb and other Packer receivers. Throwing Antonio Brown into this mix would probably be one of the best passing teams in the NFL next season. There is no doubt that with an offense like the Packers with the addition of Antonio Brown could probably be a contender for the top seed for the NFC North and the NFC as the 2019 season ends, with even a chance for a playoff run to the Superbowl and a chance to win the Lombardi Trophy.
With all the possibilities that will be offered for the Steelers, there will be no reason why the Green Bay Packers front office will not pursue Antonio Brown in the offseason, pulling a trade that will benefit both the Packers and the Steelers. A trade that could benefit both teams would be to trade linebacker Blake Martinez of the Green Bay Packers with some top draft picks for Antonio Brown. Last season, Blake Martinez started all 16 games, getting a combined 144 tackles (91 solo tackles and 53 assisted tackles) with 10 tackles for loss and six quarterback hits. For the Steelers, they are thin in the linebacker position and with the acquisition of Martinez would be a big help for their defense. Though Martinez is a key part of the packers defense, whatever wins the Lombardi Trophy must be done.
